Ice climbing is an integral part of Mountaineering and recently has branched out by the thrill seeking adventurers to quench their adventure thirst. It is quite a new sport in and around Manali and attracting considerable amount of people. Now the opening of Atal Rohtang Tunnel has opened a vast opportunity for the sport. The Ice Climbing is fun while done after some training and practice. It lets people out in the winter for some Chilled adventure. One must be ready to withstand the harshest of winter weather though. The Day by Day programme will depend on the weather, snow and ice conditions and this can vary week to week. Therefore mentioned itinerary shall be considered tentative and actual itinerary will be worked out on the spot.

DAY 01: Arrival Manali
Arrive at Manali and reach hotel. Freshen up and then after have breakfast. Post breakfast introduction and briefing by the Instructor. Post briefing a question-answer session will follow with a hot mug of tea. We will have lunch and then after check the clothing of each individual. And then after free time to buy or hire gears required. 

DAY 02: Manali to Ice Field.
We start quite early from Manali at 6.30am with packed breakfast and lunch and drive as close as snow allows us and then walk to the Ice wall. Today will be a training session including introduction to the ice climbing equipments and their usage and techniques to climb on ice. If there is less or no snow, we will camp near the Ice field or we drive back to the hotel. Evening free at Camp/hotel.

DAY 03: Ice Climbing
After breakfast, we continue the instruction and training at different wall depending on the skills learnt by the individual. Today you will be confident in using ice axe and crampons effectively and this will boost your confidence to climb higher. As the day progresses, you will also learn about belaying and abseiling from the top. Evening free at Camp/Hotel

DAY 04: Ice Climbing
Today you will enjoy the Ice Climbing with confidence and do a couple of routes. Today is the day when you actually get the feel of the sport. you will also learn to cope with the cold temperatures and work with it. Evening free at Camp/hotel.

DAY 05: Ice Climbing
Today will be the final day for ice climbing and everyone will get a chance to climb one route with your colleague belaying you. So basically you are learning to climb as well as to belay. We try to end the session quite early and head back to hotel. Evening free and we meet at dinner and share our experience. Have dinner and sleep well.

DAY 06: Departure
Today after breakfast the package ends and you get your selves ready to head back to Delhi by Volvo or your choice of transportation. End of progrramme.

  • Personal expenses such as laundry, mineral water, Hot/cold drinks, etc.
  • Personal clothing including high altitude clothing( Warm Pants, Water proof Jackets)
  • Water proof Trekking shoes
  • Insurance and any medical expenses
  • Rescue, evacuation, hospitalization and accommodation cost if any.
  • Anything else not specifically mentioned in the "Inclusions" head above.
  • Expenses incurred due to the Incidents or Reasons beyond the control of the organizers.
  • Heaters at Hotel.
  • Bus stop and hotel or vice versa transfer expenses

FACTS:

Best time for ice climbing in Manali
Mid-December to the end of February is the best time for ice climbing in Manali. However it may stretch till the first fortnight of the March owing to the weather. We also offer ice climbing in glaciers for the time other than mentioned earlier.

Safety and security
A high level of Discipline, Punctuality and Obedience is expected from the participants and from our end we follow strict safety protocol that ensures safety of all the Participants. We also put in work the imported equipment for our climbs increasing the safety bar higher. High guest to guide ratio also minimize the risk as there are more eyes observing the slope.

Climbing Warning

  • While climbing try not to kick repeatedly to set the crampon points. This is not just tiring, but can weaken the ice you're standing on
  • Do not keep your heels up too high, allowing the front points to pop out. Lowering your heels leverages the front points farther into the ice and will help to avoid an unnecessary slip
